What is Medicare?


Medicare is the United States government's health insurance program for people over 65. Some people under 65 may also qualify for Medicare, including those with disabilities, permanent kidney failure or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis


To receive Medicare, you must be a US citizen or permanent legal resident who has lived in the country for at least 5 years.


What is the difference between Medicare and Medicaid?

Medicare and Medicaid are two completely different programs. The main difference is that Medicare is generally for the elderly or disabled, and Medicaid is for people with limited income and resources.

Medicare helps with the cost of health care, but it does not cover all medical expenses or the cost of most long-term care. The program has four parts:

You can apply for Medicare online even if you are not ready to retire. Use our online application to enroll in Medicare. It takes less than 10 minutes. In most cases, once you submit your application electronically, there is nothing else to do. There are no forms to sign and usually, no other documentation is required.
